Not only is getting the exterior of your home ready and prepped for the winter months important, but getting the interior prepped and updated for winter is just as important if you want it to bring you coziness and happiness during these long, cold and dark days ahead. Here are some ideas that you can incorporate into your home for a new winter facelift and to make it the cozy oasis you long for after a busy day!
1. Have a slipper stash. Having slippers by the front door will immediately get the family in a cozy mode as soon as they walk in the door. Nothing ruins a night-in more than cold feet! Shop around for your favorite pair and even have a little stash of slippers set aside for when you have guests over so they can feel at home too.
2. Add fluff and texture to your couch. Change up the throw pillows and blankets you have on your couch to ones more suited for the winter season. Big, chunky, cable-knit blankets make great movie night blankets and fuzzy, textured or even velvet throw pillow covers will add warmth to the room. When it comes to color, deep jewel tones are in and can be fun to play with to match your seasonal decorations.
3. Area rugs. Does your home have a lot of hardwood or tile flooring? Consider adding in more area rugs around the house and hallways so that there is always somewhere warm to land. You can figure out what is best for your space by either adding in a large area rug or a bunch of small ones around the home. Have fun with it by adding more color or texture to your interior decorating!
4. Softer lighting. The secret to a cozy home is soft lighting. You will want to switch out your bright lighting for warm-toned LED light bulbs instead, in order to achieve the candle-lit look. If changing your main lights is out of the question, consider putting in more table lamps or standing lamps around your home to use for those nights you just want to cozy up with a good book or starting your new Netflix binge.
5. Change your bedsheets. While soft and light is the way to go during the summer, it could be fun to change out those bedsheets for something more wintery. Flannel or jersey sheets will definitely keep you warm at night and they feel even better when snuggling up to a warm and fuzzy throw blanket too.
6. Add layers to the kitchen. By adding a rug underneath your feet in front of the sink and a trendy cloth table runner across the kitchen table, you will add warmth to the coldness that comes with the kitchen. Between the metals, cold countertops and non-carpeted flooring, your kitchen needs a little warm touch.
7. Warmth through decoration. Don’t be afraid to sway a little bit away from your minimalist tendencies when it comes to decorating for the holiday season. While the clutter-free way makes for a breezier home in the summertime, winter is about gathering together and celebrating the season. Bring out those family and friend photos and your favorite seasonal decor. It’s fun to have fun with your home decorations for a couple of months of the year!
