The holiday season is upon us and we are gearing up to have friends and family come to visit and hosting holiday dinners. Entertaining guests is always a little stressful to think about and the biggest stress of all is thinking about having to clean the house. Here are some of our favorite cleaning motivation tips to help us get through this holiday season and to present our house in tip-top shape for our loved ones and guests! (Or, hello sellers, you should be cleaning your on-the-market house too!)
Play your favorite music. This is our favorite way to get motivated to clean. Are we the only ones that have a cleaning playlist?! If you don’t already have one, we highly recommend you do. There is no greater motivation than singing along to your favorite song or dancing while sweeping to a great throwback. Playlists can easily be made on Spotify or Apple Music to make it customizable to you and your preferred songs. We promise this will keep you moving!
Involve the whole family. Is your family a little competitive? Take that competitiveness to the broom closet! See who can clean the most things in the shortest amount of time. If there is a prize involved, it is amazing what you can motivate kids (and spouses) to do!
Tackle the worst part first. Is there something in your home that is driving you absolutely bonkers? Take it head-on first. Getting that one task done first will feel like a weight lifted off your shoulders and make the rest of the cleaning or organizing feel like a piece of cake. We all have our most-dreadful chores, so getting them out of the way first will feel great!
Use your imagination. Another great cleaning motivator is by imagining how amazing you are going to feel when it’s all done. Ahhh, all the dishes have been put away, the laundry is done, and the baseboards have finally been swept from all the dog hair. Now let’s light that holiday candle and put on our fuzzy socks - it’s couch and movie time!
Reorganize your furniture. Sometimes a trick that makes us all feel like we are living in a totally different home! Have you moved around your couch or even dressers before? Sometimes they can be the cause for some excitement and will make you more motivated to completely take on a certain room of the house and keep it looking clean.
Pinterest board inspiration. Pinterest is a great tool to use if you are looking for tips, tricks and hacks on how to clean your rooms. There are recipes for homemade concoctions on how to get those hard water stains off your shower door to how to fix a broken door hinge. Getting a little DIY motivation from other fellow homeowners could be the inspiration you need to get those “honey-do” lists wiped clean.
Be the host. It is absolutely amazing how much cleaning and organizing we can get done when we know we have guests coming over. Offer to make your home the party spot or letting out-of-towners stay over. You will have a set date to get your home cleaned by and will get you moving!
Try some new cleaning products. There are so many new cleaning products, scents and even homemade remedies available now that maybe it just takes a new smelling spray or cleaning tool to get you to want to get the job done.
