Spring is approaching and in the real estate world, it is known to be one of the busiest times of the year - the birds are chirping and many people can’t wait to get outside from hibernation. A way to ensure that your home stands out from the crowd of potential buyers and sells fast is by following up on these five tips to being spring sale ready.
1. Spring clean & declutter - we had a long and cold winter and it is understandable if things started to pile up or cleaning wasn’t at the top of your to-do list after a long dark day. However, if you want to sell your home this season, decluttering and cleaning every nook and cranny of your home will play a huge role. Decluttering is always important for home sellers to follow up on so that potential buyers will have a clean slate to look at when viewing your home. With a clean home and minimalistic decor, you already will be starting on a good note.
2. Inviting & fresh paint - especially after decluttering, sometimes something can feel off. You may feel like you are in a bare space or a room with a certain wall color that used to feel homey to you now just feels wrong. Potential buyers in today’s market are really attracted to houses that have a more neutral paint job - whites and light greys. To make your home feel more inviting and fresh, consider painting the walls to a neutral color.
3. Open the blinds & curtains - let nothing stand in the way from looking out your windows. It’s finally springtime and we want to let as much sunshine in as possible. Opening up your curtains or getting rid of them altogether makes your rooms feel bigger and happier that may attract potential buyers - especially if you have one of those killer Alaskan landscape views!
4. Fresh flowers - when you think of spring you typically think of green grass and bright flowers. While we hope the grass stays green from here on out, you can at least guarantee some bright flowers in your home by putting out a vase of them for any showings you may have. A colorful bouquet on the kitchen table or island just may be the inviting, fresh and nice-smelling piece you need!
5. Say goodbye to winter odors - we have been stuck inside all winter long without any fresh airflow. Sometimes, this staleness creates an odor that homeowners can just become immune to. Next time the weather is a little warmer, consider opening your windows to let some fresh air inside that may breathe new life into your home. On top of that, carpets and flooring can take a beating in the winter. Consider getting your carpets steam cleaned (you’ll be amazed at the results!) and give your floor a good scrubbing. If you have any blankets on the couch or have washable pillowcases, consider giving all those a good clean so that everything set out on open house day is fresh and smelling good!
